A word from the SA President

Emily Johnson

Dear Hastings College students, faculty, and staff,

I would like to express how extremely grateful and excited I am for the opportunity to serve the student body this coming school year. My cabinet and I have worked tirelessly throughout this election campaign, and we are ready to continue the process of moving HC in the direction that it needs to go. We understand that this is a pivotal point in HC history, and we will work to the best of our abilities to ensure that the student voice is heard. We have already spoken to some key members of Hastings College and the community to begin the process of moving future and current initiatives forward. [Read more...]

What’s Your Flavor?

When you say “cookies” in Hastings, the words “Eileen’s Colossal Cookies” almost unanimously follows.  The cookie business has created quite a name for itself in the last three decades and now currently has 18 stores across the Midwest.

Students were asked to name their favorite flavor of Eileen’s cookie, leading up to the premier of Part 2 when we get the scoop on Eileen’s Colossal Cookies from Eileen Harman herself.

Crimson Cup Coffee Shop

The Crimson Cup is a coffee shop located inside Hazelrigg Student Union, opposite to the Bronco Bookstor

“It offers really cheap coffee for them (students), a great place to study and hangout. It’s a great environment,” said student manager Chloe Ekberg.

A plain cup of coffee ranges anywhere from sixty-five cents to eighty cents, with tea priced at forty cents a cup and specialty drinks and smoothies priced at $1.50. This is very inexpensive compared to places such as Starbucks. The Crimson Cup has all the same special syrups as Starbucks like Vanilla and Hazelnut. You can even get a Caramel Macchiato.

“You go to Starbucks and it’s like five dollars for one cup of coffee. Here you can get almost five cups of coffee for that price,” said Ekberg. [Read more...]

A passion for others: Hinga family adopts

Children were running across the lawn, clothes were swaying on the line and nannies were greeting other newly-arrived families; but as Gilbert Hinga looked into the eyes of his new baby boy for the first time, the world stood still.

“For just a moment, there’s nothing else that matters except for him,” Hinga said. “All the noises seem to disappear, and then life comes back.”
