Seniors display thesis artwork

Each year, senior art students present their art thesis to the public. This year, Teal Peterson’s and Katy Gerwig’s presentations were unique in the fact that they had 3D artwork displayed. Christi Humble also presented her senior thesis. All three students expressed their innate creativity and individuality through their artwork.

Christi Humble’s art thesis consists of 11 large paintings and four smaller paintings.  The smaller paintings are complimentary, sharing her relationship with God.

Teal Peterson’s sculptures showcase the various 3D models of dresses made entirely of natural bearings such as branches, pine cones, bark and grass, giving the feel for her connection with nature.

Katy Gerwig’s art thesis is based on the combination of a hospital and a morgue. Some works represent one side of death and others, life.  Another shows both through the conflicting colors of red and blue. All of these things conflict, but go side-by-side in life. She also has projections of herself on a frosted plastic, giving a ghostly feel to it. Her main sculpture is of a “blood” fountain with a heart on top. Gerwig’s reasoning for all of the medical reference is her wish to be a doctor.  Her fear of needles prevented her from pursuing that dream, so her artwork will be the closest she will get to becoming a doctor.
