Over 230 collegiate cowboys and cowgirls traveled to the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings last weekend to compete in the Inaugural Bobby Gottsch Jr. Memorial Rodeo, the first rodeo ever hosted by the HC rodeo club. [Read more...]

HC Media crowns bracket winner

This year, members of HC Media tried to predict a perfect bracket for the 2013 NCAA March Madness. However, like everybody else in the country, no one could call every matchup perfectly. Twenty-seven people involved with HC Media competed against each other and put their college basketball knowledge to the test.

The race to first place in the challenge was anything but certain, as people lost  and gained their lead with upsets and bad choices in their brackets. However, in the end the Collegian’s Trevor Brass, who won with his choice for the overall No. 1 seed Louisville to win, scored a total of 270 points in the challenge. He was closely followed with a tie of 258 points between freshman Mckenzie Wedel and 2011 graduate Nick Blasnitz for second place. [Read more...]

After preseason tragedy, Broncos find a way to end positively

Wrestling_LHThe 2012-13 HC wrestling season began tragically as the team dealt with the loss of senior Brad Cusatis. As the end of the season arrives, the Broncos have found some positivity.

Hofstetter, is a 2004 graduate who helped to lead HC to back-to-back national championships. Hofstetter returns to campus looking to lead the Broncos back to a championship. [Read more...]

Bronco Women defeat Nebraska Wesleyan

Last night, the Lady Broncos took on the Prairie Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan, looking to bounce back from a loss earlier in the week to Dordt. The Broncos quickly took the lead and from the beginning of the game and didn’t give up before half time, leading the Nebraska Wesleyan 26-14. [Read more...]

HC Volleyball Victorious on Pink Night

Lynn Farrell Arena was a sea of pink on Tuesday as the #5 Hastings Broncos took on Midland for the annual “Play Tough, Play Pink” night. The Bronco players wore pink wrestling shirts in remembrance of  Hastings College wrestler, Brad Cusatis, who passed away earlier this year.

When the action got rolling, the Broncos took the first set 25-18. Midland had more errors than it did kills allowing the Broncos to run away with it. The 2nd set was much the same as the Broncos came away with the win 25-19. Midland had eight kills once again with two less errors, making its hitting percentage after the first two games .000 (16 kills, 16 errors, 61 attempts). [Read more...]

Fighting for the recruitment spot

Before college athletes can suit up and play for their school, each one goes through the recruiting process. Coaches and players both have to fight for attention getting recruits and as recruits.

“I went after HC and then they became interested,” said Becca Randall, freshman softball player. “I emailed the coach that I was interested in playing here and then emailed him my stats.” [Read more...]

A new face is leading the Bronco volleyball team this year, coming to Hastings College with plenty of experience.

“I’ve been fortunate to learn from some great people,” said head coach Matt Buttermore. “I had a good experience at Concordia where I also became familiar with the GPAC. At Bellevue as an assistant, I learned how to run a top 25 college volleyball program.”
